Syracuse is an Italian city located in the east of Sicily, on the coast. It was founded by the Greeks in the year 734 B.C. in what is now known as the island of Ortigia, and was consecrated to the goddess Artemis. It soon became the most important Greek city on the island and a leading cultural center of Ancient Greece.

Since 2005, Syracuse and the rocky Necropolis of Pantálica have been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

San Gimignano is an Italian town located on a hill in Tuscany, southwest of Florence. It is surrounded by walls dating from the 13th century. In the center of the old town is Piazza della Cisterna, a triangular square where medieval houses abound. The town's skyline is made up of medieval towers, including the stone-built Torre Grossa. The Duomo di San Gimignano church dates back to the 12th century and the Santa Fina chapel houses frescoes by the painter Ghirlandaio.
