SAINT LOUIS - Gateway Arch National Park
Gateway Arch National Park - is an American national park located on the site of the original city of St. Louis, Missouri, near the point where the legendary Lewis and Clark expedition began. The park, which illustrates the national expansion to the West undertaken by President Thomas Jefferson, commemorates several historical events:
The Louisiana Purchase, and the subsequent westward march of American explorers and pioneers.
The first civilian government west of the Mississippi River.
The debate on slavery originated by the Dred Scott case.
