OURO PRETO - Historic Town of Ouro Preto (WHS Unesco)


Historic Town of Ouro Preto - Founded in the early 18th century 513km north of Rio de Janeiro, covers the steep slopes of the Vila Rica (Rich Valley), centre of a rich gold mining area and the capital of Minas Gerais Province from 1720-1897.
Along the original winding road and within the irregular layout following the contours of the landscape lie squares, public buildings, residences, fountains, bridges and churches which together form an outstanding homogenous group exhibiting the fine curvilinear form of Baroque architecture.

OLINDA - Historic Center of the Town of Olinda (WHS Unesco)


Historic Centre of the Town of Olinda - Founded in 1535 on hillsides overlooking the Atlantic Ocean on Brazil’s northeast coast, close to the isthmus of Recife where its port is situated, Olinda served from the last years of the 16th century onward as one of the most important centres of the sugarcane industry, which for almost two centuries was the mainstay of the Brazilian economy.

SAO MIGUEL DAS MISSOES - Jesuit Missions of the Guaranis (WHS Unesco)


São Miguel das Missões - is a Brazilian municipality in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. In the city are the Jesuit ruins of "São Miguel Arcanjo", declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco since 1984. It is one of the several reductions that exist in Brazilian, Argentine and Paraguayan territory, founded by the Jesuits during the 18th century as part of a plan that had the objective of catechizing the Guarani Indians and protecting them from the slave traders that plagued the region. . The reduction was built between the years 1735-1745, but despite the efforts of the Jesuits, the Portuguese ended up conquering the mission in 1801.
