SOUTH DAKOTA - Wind Cave National Park

Wind Cave National Park is a United States national park located in the state of South Dakota. It has some of the longest and most complex caves in the world and also protects 11,450 hectares of grasslands and coniferous forests. The caves are known for their particular calcite formations that resemble a honeycomb. The prairie is a haven for wildlife made up mostly of elk bison, deer, coyotes and prairie dogs. It was first protected in 1903 by President Theodore Roosevelt, making it the seventh national park in the US and the first cave designated as a national park anywhere in the world.
