HONGCUN (Huangshan - An'hui) - Ancient Villages (WHS Unesco)

Hongcun is a town located in the southern Chinese province of Anhui, on the slopes of the Huangshan Mountains. The village was founded in 1131 during the Han dynasty period by members of the Wang family. The architecture and carved decorations of the nearly 150 residences date back to the Ming and Qing dynasties. They are considered among the most remarkable in all of China.
Declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 2000 with the name of ancient towns of southern Anhui.
