PÉCS - Cella Septichora (WHS Unesco)

The Late Roman Christian cemetery of Sopianae, the Roman ancestor of the city of Pécs, was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2000. In its architecture and wall painting, the excavated group of finds illustrates Christian funerary architecture and art primitive from the northern and western provinces of the Roman Empire in an extremely versatile and complex manner. Among the world heritage sites in Hungary, the early Christian cemetery in Pécs was included in the UNESCO world heritage list under the category of cultural history.
